otox. Collegen injections. Laser Resurfacing. Microdermabrasion. There are countless chemically-based treatments to improve the look and feel of your skin. But for Mamta Anand, founder of the Disha Group, the natural way is the best way to accomplish that goal. Her firm faith in Ayurveda, an ancient Hindu holistic health philosophy, along with aromatherapy, form the foundation for the Disha Group’s product line, Aroma Magic.

The Juicy Details

The Aroma Magic line is made from fruit, vegetable and flower extracts, is free of synthetic ingredients, chemicals, and artificial fragrances and colors. Every element of the products, from the plant oils to the water, is hand-picked from the pure valleys of the Indian Himalayas. Anand was first exposed to Aroma Magic living in India, where the line was championed by renowned health and beauty specialist Dr. Blossom Kochhar.

The Aroma Magic line delivers on its results, in part, because it’s such a targeted treatment. Ayurvedic philosophy maintains that a general imbalance in the body can produce ailments in specific organs, such as the skin. Correcting that overall imbalance can solve those ailments. Anand recalls one instance in which a spa owner suffered countless machine treatments and expensive products to treat sun damage from a trip to Mexico. Within one treatment of Ayurveda, however, she could see the resulting improvement on her face and incorporated the line into her spa. “Natural spa treatments are so important—they’re alternatives to botox and other chemical solutions,” says Anand. “That’s not a sustainable approach to dealing with your skin. Nature holds all these solutions.”

Try It

For beginners, Anand recommends the [1] Green Tea Mask. “It’s loaded with antioxidants—an instant perk-up face up mask.” [2] The Milk Pack, which rejuvenates dull and fatigued skin, is another good mask. And of course, many South Asians flock to the [3] Fairy Lotion, which “enhances skin brightness.”

Coming Stateside

“I always had an interest in natural remedies, and I wasn’t looking at the commercial aspect of it. My non-desi friends tried the product line and they loved it. They said, ‘Why don’t you get some products for us next time you visit India?’” says Anand. So she approached Aroma Magic’s manufacturer and inventor abroad. Her marketing MBA helped her pitch the idea for distributor rights in North America. After six months of company in Ayurvedic solutions and mixtures, Anand learned the different treatments used for each skin condition. Keeping with the Ayurvedic philosophy, she’s knowledgeable in providing unique solutions for whatever the skin condition: oily, dry, sun damaged, aged, and more. While most of the products are marketed to spas, purchases can be made online or by calling Anand and having her create a unique treatment for whatever the skin condition.

The Whole Picture

Thanks to Anand, Aroma Magic is taking off in the West Much of Anand’s sales came from spa facilities and health centers, where all-natural treatments and Ayurveda gained ground, in part, because of the popularity of yoga. Indian spas and yoga studios are incorporating Ayurveda and seeking holistic solutions. Eventually, Anand hopes to open her own holistic center, including dieticians, physicians and prenatal care targeted to each different Ayurveda body constitution. For Anand, “there are so many hidden treasures and valuable pieces of wisdom that are part of ancient legacy; and somewhere down the line, we have forgotten the basics, and have been wrecking our bodies with synthetics. Nature has true and lasting solutions for all problems, and that is what this line represents in totality.” n
