A lesbian couple in the Indian state of Orissa has gotten married.
A priest belonging to the Korput district’s Kandha tribe presided over the ceremony, uniting Wetka Polang, 30, with her partner Melka Nilsa, 22.

A [1] lesbian couple in the Indian state of Orissa has gotten married.
A priest belonging to the Korput district’s Kandha tribe presided over the ceremony, uniting Wetka Polang, 30, with her partner Melka Nilsa, 22.
The community, initially resistant to the idea of two women marrying, ultimately gave its blessings to the union.
Said village elder, Melka Powla, of the couple: “They wanted to prove that they can live without the help of men. They also love each other very much. So we decided to forgive them.”
Polang and Nilsa are now looking to adopt a young boy.
