SeatGuru.com and farecast are excellent resources that I've personally come to love. Additionally, if your looking for direct routes to Nigeria, Ghana, or Guyana, check out www.flynaa.com. North American Airlines has saved me countless hours making these treks. Thanks for the great post. Hope this info is useful to someone out there as well!

Great article. Very informative. I wish my mom would've read this before she bought her ticket at the end of May!

This service isn't available yet for international flights, but www.farecast.com tells you when you should purchase your desired route. It checks on the odds (based on historical trends) of your airfare going up or down if you wait.

I flew Emirates last winter (Feb 2006) and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind the stopover in Dubai. It was comfortable and roomy, the food was decent and there are personal TVs for each seat. They are very strict on the weight for carry on and checked luggage though, so shoppers beware.

Continental also has a direct flight from Newark to Delhi that is fast. Also I recently booked a ticket to Delhi on Finn Air - they just started the route from NY to Helsinki to Delhi - and it was so cheap for December - $990 - at peak season!
