Sandra Bullock made a dramatic style statement at the 9th Annual Costume Designers’ Guild Awards when she hit the red carpet in a sari-inspired gown. Designer Marc Bouwer, whose clients include Angelina Jolie, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, created the dress. “I’ve always loved the ease of a sari,” says Bouwer, who has recently been recognized by PETA for his 100 percent cruelty-free fashion line.

Bahar Soomekh (you remember her as Dorri in the Oscar-winning film Crash) was also present at the event, held at the historic Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Soomekh (she celebrates her 32nd birthday this weekend) was recently named one of People magazine’s 100 most beautiful people. The Tehranian University of California Santa Barbara grad left her corporate job to pursue acting a few years ago. “I was sitting behind a computer desk at a job that I absolutely hated and I was so miserable there. It’s mind blowing to me. I can’t believe my dream has come true and it’s happening.”

Fellow Aries Lisa Ray (pictured above in a curve-hugging silver dress) was also in attendance. Ray, whose role in Deepa Mehta’s Academy Award-nominated film Water garnered international attention, can next be seen starring alongside Sheetal Sheth in the Shamim Sarif film I Can’t Think Straight.
