Indian Professor Dies in Virginia Tragedy

GV

Engineering professor G. V. Loganathan was one of the victims of yesterday’s horrific gun rampage at Virginia Tech. CNN-IBN reports that the civil and enviromental engineering professor was teaching a class in Norris Hall during the violent rampage. His colleague Raman Kumar confirmed the news of his death, reporting that he died around 9:15 a.m.

He was an award-winning instructor who had received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching several times, among other honors. Loganathan was originally from India, where he earned his bachelor’s (Madras University) and master’s (Indian Institute of Technology) degrees. He held a doctorate from Purdue University.

Abhi over at Sepia Mutiny
reports that at least one of Loganathan’s students considered him “God of his subjects” (as written on RateMyProfessor.com).

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
