Reese’s New Project

According to Variety, Reese Witherspoon’s Type A Films is developing a feature film based on the real-life crime novel Under The Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey.

The novel is about the brutal killing of British Columbia teen Reena Virk by a group of her classmates. It is not clear if Witherspoon will star but Thirteen‘s Catherine Hardwicke is said to be directing.

From Variety:

Godfrey, who’s from the same area, returned to her hometown to research the eight high schoolers who were charged in the case, investigating the cliques at the group’s well-off school as well as the life of Virk, the daughter of Indian immigrants. Two of the students were convicted in 2005.

Casting this project should be interesting though it’s not set to release until 2009. Looking forward to hearing more about this.

I have read the book and it was touching to the core. I lived 6 years in Victoria, BC, where this incident took place and also been to the bridge where this brutal killing happened. My heart goes out to family members who had to suffer and hopefully this movie will respect their feelings.
